Cryptosocial Aesthetics at NFTParis - Community Voting and Curation Process

We are well under way into the construction of the Cryptosocial Aesthetics Canon, and by extension the assemblage and curation of our upcoming exhibit at NFTParis. Through this exciting new experiment, we are exploring, together with the JPG community, how can we all work together towards a specific curatorial endeavour - which will be on view at the Grand Palais in Paris, from February 24th to 26th.

The JPG community has been consistently demonstrating their expertise and desire to take on new challenges, as well as a strong sense of collective creation, so we’re pushing them to the forefront of this opportunity, by recontextualizing the Canon they’re crowdsourcing and showcasing their expertise and taste to a large new IRL audience at what is shaping up to be one of the biggest NFT events this year.

In displaying the results of the canon, we hope to show the collections that the community as a whole feels most embodies the criteria, and as such will be calculating the collections to be chosen based off voting power differential (Voting Power For subtracted by Voting Power Against). The top 12 collections from this week’s voting round will be included and on view in the exhibition (pending artist approval), as well as the three initial projects canonized by JPG, and the JPG team will then create presentation formats that call attention to each collection’s cryptosocial attributes.

Due to timing constraints with preparing a physical exhibition, only collections in the first round of voting will be considered for physical display, though the canon will continue to develop.

While this is our first experiment towards a more curatorial-oriented outcome, it will not be the last and the process will certainly evolve in the future.
