We’re excited to announce that we’ve been working together with the Berliner Volksbank, one of the largest European cooperatives, and an important German bank, in an exhibition combining NFTs and physical artworks from the Bank’s permanent collection.
The exhibition is set to take place in Berlin on October 5th to 7th 2023, at the Studio Knecht/Wendelin, an artist-run space in the heart of the city.
Market Makers is an exploration of communities, financial instruments and art –an exhibition that combines artworks from the Stiftung Kunstforum Berliner Volksbank, commissioned artwork that invokes the performance of exchange, and NFTs that reference value creation, economic mechanics, and networked interactions.
The exhibition aims to surface and educate about the lore, history, and contemporary tensions between cryptocurrencies and decentralized finance (DeFi), banks, and traditional financial institutions– revealed through art where these elements converge.
By exploring the intersection of these diverse elements, the exhibition will offer insights into the evolving perceptions and manifestations of value throughout history and in the digital age.
The exhibition will be accompanied by an educational program aimed to educate people about NFTs, cryptocurrencies, and the benefits and risks associated with them.
Market Makers is a collaborative effort between the Stiftung Kunstforum Berliner Volksbank, the foundation that has been collecting contemporary artworks for the Berliner Volksbank, JPG and the bank.
The exhibition is curated by Profesor, artist and curator Simon Denny, curator and art strategist Stina Gustafsson, artist and researcher Christopher Dake-Outhet, and JPG’s co-founder María Paula Fernández.
Some of the NFT artists confirmed are Mitchell F. Chain, Stevie P., Sarah Meyohas and Keiken.
We’ll reveal the full roster of participating NFT artists soon - stay tuned!
